Motor Transportation Services provides passenger vehicles and cargo vans for rental to meet the operational needs of departments or for University of Maryland business travel. Compact cars, sedans, and vans seating five, seven, and 12 passengers are available. Mini and full-size cargo vans, compact and full-size pickup trucks, as well as high-cube vans (9'9"L x 6'8"W x 6'2"H box truck with 4,500 lbs. payload capacity and 36-inch load height) are also offered.
Motor Transportation Services vehicle reservations may be made online or by calling 301.405.5482. For travel that includes an overnight stay, an approved Concur request is required. If you require a rental vehicle at your destination, contact a University of Maryland travel agency or make a reservation using a UMD discount rate.
Drivers must comply with the driving rules for University of Maryland Vehicles. In addition, drivers must sign a Driver Acknowledgement Form that must be retained by their department.
Rental vehicles may be picked up at the Fleet Services Building (located behind the Patapsco Building). Please note that Motor Transportation Services is not responsible for property left in vehicles. Customers parking a personal vehicle at the pickup location are responsible for removing all property from the vehicle.
The cost of vehicle rental is based on the type of vehicle, length of rental, and the number of miles driven. Vehicle rental cost includes state insurance coverage and collision damage waiver.
