Beginning Friday, November 7th, there will be a 10% reduction in airline schedules at 40 domestic airports. The FAA and DOT have made this reduction in service due to ongoing impacts of the Federal shutdown. This cutback is meant to relieve pressure on the aviation system so the airlines, airports and TSA can continue to operate safely. The list of airports affected includes the greater DC-Baltimore area.
In case of flight delays or cancellations, our travel agency, CTP, recommends the following travelers’ actions to help mitigate inconveniences and longer hold times with emergency services and airlines:
- Book, change, and cancel travel reservations through Concur, our online booking tool whenever possible
- Avoid booking the last flight of the day
- Travelers must only use CTP Emergency Services when travel is within 72 hours of departure
- Our primary goal is to service travelers experiencing current disruptions and make a live agent accessible to them if needed. If your travel is beyond the 72 hours window, please call during normal business hours.
- Choose the "callback" option to reduce hold times and receive a return call when an agent becomes available.
- Download airline apps, and sign up for airline messages
- Use the airline app, CTM Mobile, and/or relevant websites to check flight status before heading to the airport.
Travel & Card Services will continue to monitor the travel industry during the federal shutdown and will communicate information as needed.
If your travelers have not already signed up for the Travel Information listserv, please have them do so as this is our communication tool for campus.
