The University of Maryland will operate under tight fiscal constraints in FY27. As a result, institutionally funded travel will be extremely limited for staff employees. No changes or restrictions to faculty travel are in effect for FY27 at this time.
Only the following types of travel will be permitted using institutional funds:
- Travel required to carry out official duties
Example: Enrollment Management recruiting trips or University Relations donor engagement.
- Travel tied to ex officio responsibilities
Example: Serving as UMD’s representative on a recognized institutional board or body such as Council of University System Staff.
- Travel related to core job duties and fully funded by an external entity
Example: A partner organization or external agency covers all travel costs.
- Travel funded by specially designated or awarded funds given to an individual
Example: USM Professional Development Award or UMD RISE Grant.
Important Notes: - This policy applies to FY27 only –– Travel in FY26 is not affected.
- FY27 travel that was approved in Concur prior to 4/27/26 may proceed as planned.
